What is Bouldering?

Bouldering is rope-free climbing on climbing walls at jump-down height, with each area additionally protected by thick safety mats. The special appeal of this type of climbing lies mainly in its variety and sense of community. Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, anyone can enjoy the sport—alone or with friends—as long as a few basic safety rules are followed.

For beginners, bouldering is the perfect introduction to climbing, since there’s no need to learn rope or belay techniques. All you need are climbing shoes and a bit of chalk—and you’re ready to go!

Courses

The Klosterneuburg Climbing Gym of the Alpenverein Austria offers all enthusiastic climbers two large indoor bouldering areas, a children’s bouldering wall, and an outdoor bouldering area. The routes in each section are regularly updated with new boulder problems, and our route-setting team places great emphasis on variety and quality.
